Ø Blood compatible and anticoagulant membranes. Our lab is trying to prepare blood-compatible polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membranes, which can be widely applied in dialysis and artificial kidney for clinical applications. To improve the blood-compatibility of PES membranes, different methods are investigated, synthesized biomedical polymers are blended with PES to prepare membranes, different functional groups are grafted onto the PES membranes and some functional polymers are coated onto the PES membranes.

Ø Bioactive Polymers and nanosystems. Our lab also focuses on synthesizing bio- and blood- compatible and biological active polymers, microgels, various nanomaterials. Meanwhile, we also investigate the regarding bioactive polymers and nanosystems modified membranes and solid substrates for biomedical applications by bulk blending, surface LbL assembly or mussel adhesive protein inspired polydopamine, for instance the heparin-like polymers, chitosan/Ag microgels, graphene oxide.
