• 1953
Sichuan University polymer discipline was established

In June 1953, Sichuan Institute of Chemical Technology set up "Polymer Compound major", which was renamed "Plastic Engineering Major" in 1954.

  • 1957

Recruit and train the first graduate students of plastic engineering.

  • 1958

New "synthetic rubber" specialty and "chemical fiber" specialty.

  • 1960
    Establishment of polymer Research Institute

The Ministry of Education approved the creation of the Polymer Research Institute.

  • 1961

The Department of Polymer Chemical Engineering was established and numbered as the fourth department.

  • 1972

Formally established the "plastic processing engineering" specialty, the corresponding establishment of the teaching and research department.

  • 1978

In October, Chengdu Institute of Technology was renamed Chengdu University of Science and Technology.

  • 1979

The Department of Polymer Chemistry was transformed into the Department of Polymer Materials (Organic Chemistry, polymer Chemistry and physics were merged into the Department of Chemistry). The specialty of polymer chemical industry was renamed the specialty of polymer synthesis, and "plastic molding and processing" and "chemical fiber" were merged into "Polymer Materials Engineering" (according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education, after 1982, it was still recruited and cultivated according to the original two majors). The medical polymer discipline began to recruit graduate students.

  • 1981
Authorization of doctoral center for polymer materials

Approved by the national first batch of "polymer materials" professional doctoral.

  • 1984

The Polymer Research Institute was established independently from the Department of Polymer Materials.

  • 1986

Approved as China’s first doctoral program in “plastic Molding Processing”

  • 1988

The Department of Plastic Engineering has set up a new specialty of "Polymer material processing machinery".

  • 1989
    State key laboratory approved

In June 1989, the State Planning Commission officially approved the polymer materials engineering of our university as a State key laboratory construction project.

  • 1993

New "Polymer material processing machinery major (mold direction)" undergraduate.

  • 1994

In April, Sichuan University and Chengdu University of Science and Technology were merged and named Sichuan United University.

  • 1995

The College of Materials Science and Engineering consists of the Department of Polymer Materials, the Department of Plastic Engineering and the Institute of Polymer Engineering, and the Department of Inorganic Materials and Material Science (the chemical fiber specialty belongs to the Textile Engineering Department of the College of Light Industry and Textile Engineering).

  • 1998

The School of Materials Science and Engineering was changed into a coordinated school, and the Department of Polymer Materials and the Department of Plastic Engineering were merged into the Department of Polymer Materials Science and Engineering. In December, Sichuan Union University (Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Science and Technology) was renamed Sichuan University.

  • 2000

On September 29, Sichuan University merged with West China University of Medical Sciences and was renamed Sichuan University.

  • 2001
    Establishment of polymer College

In 2001, it was the first disciplinary college in the key universities directly under the Ministry of Education to take the polymer discipline as the main subject.

  • IN RECENT YEARS

In recent years, through the construction of "Project 211" and "Project 985", the polymer discipline of Sichuan University has become one of the largest and most influential teaching and research bases in the field. Today, the College of Polymer Science and Engineering has made remarkable achievements in personnel training, faculty construction, teaching and research, and has become an important window for the country to train high-quality senior engineering and technical personnel.
