From September 29th to October 9th, Rong Ran, the professor and the Associate Dean of College of Polymer Science and Engineering of Sichuan University; Associate Professor Mengjin Jiang, together with 5 students of Grade 2015 and Grade 2016, have completed the practice and training program in North Carolina State University(NCSU). The holistic program has lasted for ten days.North Carolina State University, situated in Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina State, was founded in 1887, and is one of the top public research universities in the United States, having a high reputation in the academic field. The Textile College that the PSE group visited is the key college in NCSU and is ranking No.1 among all the textile colleges in North America. Additionally, the PSE group also visited Natural Resource College.
The major activities of the program included communication with NCSU’s teachers and students and visiting the laboratories of the Textile College and the Natural Resource College, etc. By the foreign teachers’ instruction, our students learned a wealth of academic techniques and established the knowledge system of the cutting-edge theories in the worldwide polymer science and technology field. Moreover, the PSE group discussed with the NCSU teachers on the differences of a wide array of aspects, including the pedagogy and teaching methodology.
The teachers of NCSU spoke highly of our students, in light of strict academic spirit and favorable organizational discipline, and looked forward to launching further cooperation with our College in the future. Apart from studying in the university, our students also visited campuses of NCSU, Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, etc.
Thanks to this program, students have benefited a lot. Not only did they gain the experience in the laboratories of the top university, but also broadened their horizon and enriched academic knowledge, having more comprehensive and deeper cognition on American society and culture.
